I believe Dustin preferred the stairs go unaltered...
...but, it had to be done.
Eventually it'd be nice to install new stairs altogether - for now, some aesthetic clean-up was in order. We primed first then used a dark brown floor paint from Valspar for the treads and balusters. Some bright white trim paint for the risers finished it up.
Since I'm sure most are curious about wear and tear with painting the floor, I'll admit that we actually did this job prior to filming the show (last summer). The paint has performed quite well. For about $50 I'd say this was a worthwhile, buck-banging effort.
Yep. Lady Gaga on the TV.

It looks lovely! I just refinished our staircase treads and banister, and painted the risers and ballusters, but this looks a lot easier. Great job!
What a fabulous transformation!!
Hey, guys! Wanted to wish you a happy new year and to congratulate you on the show. Bravo.
Also, love your color selections and the re-do of the stairs.
I came by as well because after (DW) put a tile back splash up, I recollected something quite similar here. Fortunately, we were only so close as to be "homage" not copy-cats! Whew!
We'll try to blog more and will stop by more regularly.
Best,
Mark
It is amazing what a little paint on some stairs will do. They look great!
VERY NICE!!
I agree w/ Sara -- fantastic staircase pics. . . (I liked your article too Sara)

poor dog. haha, in our country, it never snows. it has been a dream of mine to go to a place with snow and touch the snow. I envy you so much.
Painting the staircase makes such a difference, it looks to much more roomy and less closed in.
Interesting layout on your blog. I really enjoyed reading it and also I will be back to read more in the future.
Love the dark brown paint used on staircase. Can you tell me the name of the color? Thank you!
